Generation scheduling in a competitive environment

چکیده مقاله:
Electric power restructuring offers a major change to the vertically integrated monopoly. The change manifests the main part of engineers’ efforts to reshape the three components of today’s vertically integrated monopoly: generation, distribution and transmission. In a restructured environment, the main tasks of these three components will remain the same as before, however, to comply with FERC orders, new types of unbundling, coordination and rules are to be established to guarantee competition and non-discriminatory open access to all users. This paper provides the generation schedule of a GENCO in a deregulated power system. It is shown that the goal of generation schedule in the new structure is different from the traditional centralized power systems. The modeling of generation scheduling problem in a competitive environment is demonstrated by taking into account the main purposes of GENCOs which are selling electricity as much as possible and making higher profit. The GENCOs of an area are introduced via a model whose objective function consists of hourly spot market price as income and different kinds of costs. The constraints are the general ones of such a problem e.g. minimum up/down time, minimum and maximum generation and ramp rate. Using one of the classical optimization methods, the hourly generation schedule of the generating units will be obtained in this competitive environment. The results of this section will be used by ISO. The ISO will finalize the schedules of GENCOs by taking into account the technical considerations like the power flow of transmission lines. The model and the optimization methods are implemented on IEEE-RTS benchmark with 24 buses and 32 generating units.

Agents with adjustable autonomy for scheduling in the competitive environment
This study addresses the problem of constructing an adequate strategy for multiagent scheduling in situations with high uncertainty and inconsistent goals. An automatic scheduling agent with adjustable autonomy builds the preliminary schedule and assists the human agents in modifying the schedule towards their specific goals. The degree of autonomy of an automatic agent is controlled via the sy...
متن کاملTransactional Agents: a Robust Approach for Scheduling Orders in a Competitive Just-in-time Manufacturing Environment
Globalization and outsourcing make the concept of Just-In-Time manufacturing a very attractive solution for cutting production costs and bringing new products to the market as early as possible. However, this has a deep impact on traditional production planning. Time-slots at the appropriate production units must be allocated for each manufacturing stage of a product. This reservation occurs in...
متن کاملHierarchical, competitive scheduling of multiple DAGs in a dynamic heterogeneous environment
With the advent of large-scale heterogeneous environments, there is a need for matching and scheduling algorithms which can allow multiple, directed acyclic graph structured applications to share the computational resources of the network. This paper presents a hierarchical matching and scheduling framework where multiple applications compete for the computational resources on the network. In t...

متن کاملData Replication-Based Scheduling in Cloud Computing Environment
Abstract— High-performance computing and vast storage are two key factors required for executing data-intensive applications. In comparison with traditional distributed systems like data grid, cloud computing provides these factors in a more affordable, scalable and elastic platform. Furthermore, accessing data files is critical for performing such applications. Sometimes accessing data becomes...
متن کاملTractable Optimal Competitive Scheduling
In this paper we describe the problem of Optimal Competitive Scheduling, which consists of activities that compete for a shared resource. The objective is to choose a subset of activities to schedule, sequence them, and decide how much time they are allowed, in such a way that temporal and resource constraints are satisfied and overall schedule quality is maximized. While most such problems are...
